Recently Adidas SA has just launched a once-off Siya Kolisi celebration men’s t-shirt, designed by a local designer through an adidas youth empowered platform known as ntwrkarea3. The designer is said to have been selected through a competition on the platform which offered an open brief to create a design that represents Siya’s story of his rise to success. With over 250 entries received over a period of two weeks, Siya personally chose the winner of his t-shirt design. The winner was awarded an R20 000 cash prize from adidas and the top three finalists were awarded bursaries by Red & Yellow Creative School of Business. The competition mechanic used an open-source design approach offering emerging and established artists the platform to be creative and authentic. At the core of this approach is a belief in the talent and ability of young creators in South Africa who continue to push the boundaries of design and creativity.
